Homing Requirements: Basil needs a terrier aware family who are happy to retain Basil on an extender lead, not short lead, and steer him away from direct contact with dogs as he is concerned at this point in time, and needs to be a lot more settled to build trust. Basil will need empathy and patience as he has not been assessed in a home yet within our rescue. ‘Only’ pet status. A terrier proof garden without stepping stones and exit management around front door and gate is also required.
His Story: Basil was found stray and judged not to be good with dogs. Terrierrescue was asked to take Basil as he will suit a Patterdale home who 'gets' the working type' terrier mind set. Basil is neutered, chipped and vax'd. Basil is currently in boarding kennels near Godstone, Surrey
Advert: Basil is a great Patterdale who is alert, studious and intent. He walks well on a lead and needs a low dog density area to be able to relax and enjoy the hedgerow. He will gradually form friendships walking alongside other family dogs but needs a slow and sensitive approach with a acceptance that Basil is a people dog but not a dogs dog! Basil relaxes in the car but needs to be secured to avoid getting free at his destination. ‘Only’ pet status with no visiting pets and a terrier proof garden are also required.
Basil is a young 3 year old Patterdale with a fawn fleck to his Black/Brown coat. He has a little scarring on his muzzle where he has at some point 'gone to ground'. Terrier equals terrafirma! Basil wants to go to ground if allowed to run free so hence an extender lead will keep him safe yet allow him to enjoy the smells of his walk. Basil has no road sense. Easy to handle, Basil has no edge to him other than the need to try to distract him if his mind is keen and set on excited 'reference' i.e. seeing a small furry. Basil in Patterdale down to his paw tips.
