Sorry if I'm doing wrong by putting this here but on Rochdale dog rescue site there's a yorkie, a JRT and an elderly, 8+ dog going to be PTS on Tuesday. I feel too upset to do nothing at all for them. I don't know current position but have just seen it on their site. z10.invisionfree.com/RDR_Forum/index.php?showtopic=10393&hl=

June please don't worry about these little ones. RDR will get them all sorted. We can't take dogs from there as they must go to kennels first but they always manage to save nearly all of the dogs. It is very rare that they have a dog PTS.

Are you sure? Why do they say it like that then? I'm sitting here in tears.

They don't say it just to upset people, it's true that if they do not find rescue spaces they would be pts, but they do a very good job of finding rescue spaces for their dogs.

You are right to be upset, though June . It is a fact that probably 20+ dogs have died today in UK pounds, because there is nowhere for them to go. No rescue spaces, no homes, no hope. ;D That figure does not include those that will have been PTS by their owners, who can't keep them or don't want them anymore, or greyounds killed for not making the grade, or not being able to race anymore. It is awful out there We may not know these dogs by name, but they were just as deserving of a loving home, and they are just as dead. We must not forget them, and we must keep doing all we can to turn things around

"They don't say it just to upset people"
Of course they don't. I am aware of the fantastic work they do and have been part of it as a member. It just upsets me to think that these little ones apparently have so little time to find a space.

June the Yorkie has gone home, the old chap and JRT are both safe, they need transport now to get them to their rescue place. If only the same could be said for the many staffies. They have so little time because pounds are only obliged to hold dogs for 7 days - and tbh at the rate they are coming in right now very very few pounds would be able to hold dogs for longer.

Some pounds are now only holding for 5 days. They just can't keep up with the incoming numbers. It's such an awful time for rescue generally, but the Staffies get the worst deal and mainly because of money grabbing people churning out litter after litter completely uncaring about where they'll go. Believe me I am really sad about the staffies too. How do we educate these ignorant people about what becomes of their adorable little puppies when they grow up. I hate these 'for stud' adverts with a nice price attached.

My local pound tries it's hardest not to pts dogs in their care. At the moment they have a 6 week waiting list and can't take anymore in small or large. They pass my number on to people so I get approximately 5-8 calls a day, if we haven't got a foster place I have a list of other reputable rescues to give them but if these are full too it doesn't bare thinking about. ;D

Can I urge anyone who can assist with transporting to please please consider doing so.There are dogs fortunate enough to have rescue spaces (and believe me that is very fortunate these days) but the rescues concerned are strtuggling to get the dogs to those spaces.

Tell me about it Lynn. I had to postpone a TLDR run 3 times last week because it just wasn't coming together :-( The economic situation is not just affecting rescues directly, but how much help volunteers can offer, very sad XX
