Patch is a 9 year old Lhasa Apso x Bichon Frise who came into Oldies Club care when his owner could no longer care for him. He is in an Oldies Club foster home in Beccles, Suffolk, but needs to move as the resident cat is in hiding because Patch gets overexcited when he sees her. We therefore need to find Patch a permanent home, or a new foster home, as soon as possible.
Introducing Patch: Patch is quite a frightened, insecure little boy and he needs a home with a kind, calm but firm owner who will help build his confidence and make him feel safe and loved. He needs a home without cats or children. Patch has no patches so we aren’t sure how he gained his name! He just has some grey streaks on his ears.
Settled quickly: Patch settled at his foster home virtually straight away and he is fine to be left alone for a few hours. He has weed indoors at his foster home but this will hopefully improve when he is neutered and with kind, consistent housetraining.
OK with dogs: Patch could live with an easy-going dog but he will guard his food, toys and human. He is scared of dogs to start with, and very vocal, but he does calm down. He interacts with the other dog in his foster home but won’t play or cuddle up. He seems to enjoy having another dog to walk with and around the house.
Needs a cat-free home: Patch gets very excited about cats and wants to chase them. He therefore needs a cat-free home.
Needs a child-free home: Patch has been very frightened when chldren have visited his foster home and has hidden out of their way. As he is such a nervous boy and could possibly nip out of fright, we will not rehome Patch to a home with children.
Enjoys long walks: Patch is a very active, fit little boy and enjoys plenty of long walks. His recall is as good as he feels like it being! He pulls to start with as he is so excited to be going for a walk but after 5 minutes he calms down and will walk side by side with another dog.
Excited in the car: Patch gets very excited in the car and makes whining noises and wants to look out of the windows. In foster care, he’s only had 2 short trips in the car so he may settle down the more he goes out.
Patch’s favourite pastimes: Patch loves to play fetch and is great at bringing you his toys. He loves his walks and to curl up next to you.
Patch’s fears: Patch is frightened of most new things and strange people, dogs and noises. He is not a very brave soul but, once he realises that the person/dog/noise is OK, he calms down and stops barking. It takes him a while to feel comfortable but once he does he is quick to say Hello and to ask to play or for fuss from people. Once comfortable with dogs he will approach to say Hello and have a good sniff.
Patch’s perfect home: Patch needs a firm but gentle hand; someone to make him realise his boundaries but also that he is safe and loved. He would love someone who is active and will give him long walks and playtime. He sleeps in his own bed but will hop up onto his foster carer’s for a snuggle then back into his own during the night.
Health notes: Patch has been flea and worm treated and is on antibiotics for sore skin that was caused by having untreated fleas. He has also been bathed for this. Once he has finished the course of antibiotics he will be neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He has a small fatty lump on his side that will be checked when he goes for his next vet appointment. He is frightened of the vet and was muzzled at first but once he realises that he won’t be hurt he is fine.
Foster carer’s summary of Patch: Playful; energetic; cute; noisy. Patch just needs to feel wanted and loved; someone to tell him No when necessary but praise him when he is good. He wants to please and tries to understand what you ask. He follows me everywhere and likes to be close, whatever I do.
